Prof Bjørn Stensaker

Prof Bjørn Stensaker is a professor of higher education at the University of Oslo, Norway. He has a special research interest in governance and management of higher education, and has during the last 20 years published widely on these topics, not least on themes related to quality assurance. Prof Stensaker is currently the President of EAIR - the European Higher Education Society, and follows the development of quality assurance closely through various appointments at QA agencies in Denmark, Portugal and Hong Kong.

Prof Goolam Mohamedbhai

Professor Goolam Mohamedbhai did his undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Civil Engineering at the University of Manchester, UK, and his postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley. He was Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mauritius from 1995 to 2005. He has also served as Secretary-General of the Association of African Universities, President of the International Association of Universities, Chair of the Association of Commonwealth Universities and a member and Vice-Chair of the governing Council of the United Nations University. He is the recipient of several honorary doctorates and awards, including the 2014 GUNI-Africa and AfriQAN Award for Distinguished Service to Quality Assurance in Higher Education in Africa.

Dr. Susanna Karakhanyan

In addition to serving as President of INQAAHE, Dr. Karakhanyan is the founding member and Past President of the Accreditation Commission of the National Center for Professional Education Quality Assurance in Armenia and the Quality Assurance Section Manager of the Abu Dhabi Education Council, in the United Arab Emirates. Dr. Karakhanyan’s expertise evolves around authoring, initiating and implementing a variety of projects under the auspices of the Council of Europe, UNESCO, Open Society Institute, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank to name some. All the projects address higher education reforms in general and different elements in quality assurance in particular. She serves, for the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and UNESCO as a consultant in a range of quality assurance missions. The systems to which she had tangible contribution include, but are not limited tosuch countries and regions as Albania, Mongolia, Tajikistan, and other former Soviet countries, Europe, Southern and Eastern Africa and MENA region. She authors and delivers capacity building events and external reviews of QA systems/agencies per country/agency requests. Her service has been acknowledged through multiple awards such as a Gold Medal from the Ministry of Education and Science of Armenia for significant contribution to the HE system in Armenia in 2015. Dr. Karakhanyan holds M.S.Ed in Educational Administration/Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania, the USA and PhD in Social Sciences from Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Her research interests focus around higher education governance and administration, reforms, policymaking, policy diffusion and transfer, and external and internal quality assurance. Her research background has helped her tremendously in the establishment of new and evaluation/review of existing external and internal (both quality assurance agencies and higher education institutions) quality assurance systems in a diversity of contexts at the global level.

Prof. Sid Nair is the Executive Director of the Tertiary Education Commission, Mauritius. As CEO of the Commission he is responsible for the formulation and execution of strategies, policies and procedures in the higher education sector in Mauritius. Prof. Nair is a Chemical Engineer by training but his interest in helping students succeed in the applied sciences in higher education led him to his many works in improving student life in the higher education system.His research work lies in the areas of quality of teaching and learning, classroom and school environments, and the implementation of improvements from stakeholder feedback.

Yung Chi Hou (Angela), is Professor of Higher Education at Fu Jen Catholic University, Taiwan. She now serves Executive Director of Higher Education Evaluation & Accreditation Council as well as the Vice President of APQN. Currently, she is also in the service of Chief-in- Editor of HEED Journal jointly published by HEEACT and Asian Pacific Quality Network (APQN) and as Associate Editor of Journal of Asian Pacific Educational Review (SSCI). She specializes in higher education policy, quality management, internationalization, faculty development, quality assurance of cross border higher education. She has been conducting several international higher education research projects funded by the Taiwan and US governments. Up to, present, she has published more than 120 Chinese and English papers, articles, book chapters and reports in the areas of higher education evaluation and rankings in local and international referred journals. She is the author of CHEA Principles "Principle 1 Quality and higher education providers". She is also recognized by the Springer as one of the top 24 Asian researchers in higher education field.

Shaw Ren Lin is a professor at Taipei National University of the Arts, Taiwan. He now serves as the Dean of Office of Quality Assurance of Higher Education Evaluation & Accreditation Council. He got his Ph.D from National Cheng Chi University, Taiwan, and Uesd be a Fulbrighter for postdoctoral research in the University of Pittsburgh, USA. From 2001, he served in Center for Teacher Education and Graduate Institute of Arts and Humanities Education of TNUA, and as the Dean of Research & Development Office for the past 6 years. He specializes in education evaluation, quality assurance, higher education policy, teaching and learning assessment. Esther Huertas Hidalgo (Ph.D. Chemical Engineering, University of Barcelona, 2010) is a senior advisor at the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU Catalunya). Huertas has served as researcher and assistant professor at the University of Barcelona. She began to collaborate with AQU Catalunya as a student expert and in 2006 she got a position at the Agency. Professor (Dr) Arun Patil is currently Pro Vice-Chancellor and Pro President of Amity University Rajasthan, India. Prior to this Professor Patil was Director of Postgraduate Coursework Studies and Director of Deakin Engineering Education Research (DEER) in the School of Engineering, Deakin University, Australia. His other previous positions include Deputy Dean (L&T) at CQUniversity, Research Scholar and Project Officer at Monash University, Australia.

Professor Patil has over 30 years of teaching, research, and managerial experience in higher and further education. He holds a PhD, the Master of Engineering Science, both from Monash University, Australia. Professor Patil has received several awards including; Deakin University, School of Engineering's Overall Contribution to the School; Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Samman Award by the Non-Resident Indians (NRI) Welfare Society of India; the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Best Practices in Learning and Teaching (CQUniversity) and Silver Badge of Honour (Monash University) for his significant contribution to global engineering education. Professor Patil is the founding General Chair for the International Engineering and Technology Education Conference (IETEC) Series held since 2011 and he has published widely including edited books, scholarly journal articles, book chapters, conference volumes and conference papers. He has facilitated several workshops/seminars in various parts of the globe on higher education teaching/learning and quality. Ms Pauline Tang, Vice President of (INQAAHE (the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education), has been serving on the Board as an elected Director since 2013. She was the Chair of INQAAHE Membership and Membership Services from 2013 to 2015, and is the Chair of the Communication and Outreach Committee, responsible for the design and development of all internal and external communication collaterals, as well as the quality standards of material published in the public domain since 2016. She is also a valued member of the UNESCO-INQAAHE joint conference planning committee.
In 2017, Pauline was invited to chair the INQAAHE Constitution Review Task Force, tasked to take a lead role in the review and update of this important document, to provide clarity in the governance structure of the Network, minimise potential discrepancies in interpretation, ensure smooth and cohesive operation of the Board and to put in place an operational viable succession plan.
Actively engaged as senior executive in the higher education and quality assurance sector, Pauline is invited to present and/or to facilitate panel sessions at high-profile quality assurance conferences, or as external quality assurance review for government and/or non-government QA agencies on a regular basis. She is also skilled in the design and development of corporate polices and procedure, accreditation standards, comparative analysis of cross-border accreditation systems and the development of joint-assessment regimes to minimise the accreditation-burden of higher education institutions interested in the pursuit of excellence.

Julian was appointed Head of Assurance in September 2016. His work includes overseeing the delivery of a range of QAA review activities with alternative providers, further education colleges and universities. This work includes Degree Awarding Powers scrutiny, the regulation of Access to Higher Education Diplomas, reviews for specific course designation and educational oversight and the delivery of the review contracts which QAA operates on behalf of the funding councils.
Julian joined QAA in 1999 and has previously held the roles of Assistant Director, Head of QAA Wales and Head of reviews and concerns. Prior to joining QAA, Julian taught Political Studies and International Relations at Bristol University, University West of England and The Open University. He was awarded his PhD in International Relations in 2000.

Dr David Woodhouse has held senior positions with quality agencies in Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates. He was the founding Executive Director of both the NZUAAU (now AQA, New Zealand) and AUQA (Australia). In the UAE, as Commissioner for Development with the Commission for Academic Accreditation, he also led the development of a national Center for Higher Education Data and Statistics. He is currently the International Quality Assurance Advisor with the Seychelles Qualifications Authority (SQA).

David has undertaken many quality assurance activities world-wide, including leading and chairing quality review panels, and has provided advice and training on educational quality assurance to governments, agencies and institutions in many countries. He has published widely on quality assurance. He helped found the International Network of Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE) in 1991, and was President of the Network from 1997 to 2001, and from 2007 to 2011.

In 2003, David was one of the founders of the Asia-Pacific Quality Network, and served as its Secretary and led its administration until 2008.

His leisure interests include kayaking, bushwalking and camping. He is now establishing a walnut farm in Australia, while still maintaining an active interest and involvement in quality assurance in higher education.
